In 1976 Stevens nearly drowned off the coast of Malibu, California and shouted: “Oh God! He formally converted to the Islamic faith in 1977, and took the name Yusuf Islam in 1978, saying that he "always loved the name Joseph" and was particularly drawn to the story of Joseph in the Qur'an.Yusuf is the Arabic pronunciation of the name Joseph.

Yusuf married Fauzia Mubarak Ali in September 1979, at Regent's Park Mosque in London. It was the 1000th such ceremony to take place at the mosque. The couple have five children.

Lupe has been open about his Islamic faith. He has noted the importance of religion in his life, stating: "Well, I was born Muslim, so Islam plays a part in my life and everything I do, to a certain extent. I'm not like the poster boy for Islam... I still got my flaws and stuff like that, so I don't really wear that on my sleeve... I don't go to clubs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, you know like my whole - the whole groupie situation is shut down." The front of Lupe's The Cool album cover is stylized to look like that of Persian calligraphy. Along with this, Lupe begins Food & Liquor by reciting an Islamic prayer: A'uzu billahi min ash shaitani r rajimi Bismi 'llahi 'r-rahmani 'r-rahim, which translates to "I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the rejected. 6. Cyrus Bolooki (drummer new found glory)- musician (Belum pasti)

Petikan wawancara seorang wartawan dengan Cyrus Bolooki:
That’s cool… Well we do some articles at Decapolis about faith in music, so if you don’t mind me asking, what are your personal beliefs about God?

We never really said anything about religion in this band because we’re all kinda different. We have a couple of Jewish guys, and two Christians…(2 orang yahudi dan 2 orang kristen, jumlah personil NFG 5 orang, lalu apa agamanya dia? Cyrus adalah keturunan iran, kemungkinan besar ia muslim...) we have mixed beliefs. We just never really talked about it a lot and never were a band to make claims about that because we’re each different in our beliefs. We don’t wanna take sides.

7. Everlast/Erik Schrody - musician (bekas personel House of Pain)

Penuturan dari everlast :
I come from a Catholic family and had over 10 years contact with a Muslim family named Bashir. What particularly impressed me was the fact that they never tried to convince me about Islam. They never attempted to convert me. The way this family lived together was simply exemplary. I already had faith in a creator, and with time the religion of this family began to interest me, and I began to ask questions, which were also answered. Only after that did I become conscious that Islam is a religion which also accepts and respects Jesus, but not as a God, rather as a Prophet made of flesh and blood. Likewise, I found Islam to be all-encompassing, uniting all religions and Prophets in itself. The words and the exemplary life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad are a direct way to God and the connection to the truth. "Islam is like gas into the car."

8. Dave Chapelle - comedian

"I don't normally talk about my religion publicly because I don't want people to associate me and my flaws with this beautiful thing. And I believe [Islam] is a beautiful religion if you learn it the right way. It's a lifelong effort. Your religion is your standard. Coming here I don't have the distractions of fame. It quiets the ego down. I'm interested in the kind of person I've got to become. I want to be well rounded and the industry is a place of extremes. I want to be well balanced. I've got to check my intentions, man."

9. Busta Rhymes - Musician

Trevor Smith was born in East Flatbush, Brooklyn to Jamaican parents Geraldine Green and Trevor Smith, Sr.[1][2][3] When he was 12 his family moved to Uniondale, New York, a suburb of Nassau County, where he was raised and eventually met up with other artists from the growing area hip hop community. He graduated from Uniondale High School in 1991.[4]

Smith's musical career began at the age of 17 as a member of the hip hop crew Leaders of the New School along with fellow Long Island natives Charlie Brown, Dinco D, and Cut Monitor Milo. They began recording in 1989 and released their debut album A Future Without a Past in 1991 on Elektra Records. In 1993, they released T.I.M.E. (The Inner Mind's Eye). Soon after, however, internal problems arose within the group, and the group broke up on the set of Yo! MTV Raps. Rumors persisted that Smith clashed with Charlie Brown over creative control of the group's direction.

Soon after their debut, The Leaders of The New School became associated with the Native Tongues Posse, which led to the group's collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest on the single "Scenario." Smith's live performance of "Scenario" with A Tribe Called Quest on The Arsenio Hall Show led to a solo contract with Elektra after an A&R representative saw the program. The Leaders of the New School released their second and final album The Inner Mind's Eye (T.I.M.E.) in 1993, after which Smith began his solo career. He is a Muslim. In 1993 he had a son named T'ziah from his former girlfriend Joanne.

13. Peter Murphy (vokalis Bauhaus, band rock inggris) - musician

Although he had grown up in an Irish-Catholic household. Murphy converted to Islam in the 1990s, eventually moving to Turkey with his wife. A subsequent Middle Eastern influence can be heard in his later albums. In particular, Murphy has been inspired by the mysticism of Sufism. 1992's Holy Smoke mixed some traditional Turkish influences into the music while continuing the sound pioneered on Deep. The album was unable to recapture the momentum of Deep, and in the post-grunge alternative landscape, the more pop-flavored album seemed anachronistic, and the choice of the odd, disheveled-Murphy Anton Corbijn photo used on the cover baffled many fans. In 1995, Murphy embraced a lower-key, ambient pop sound for Cascade, featuring producer Pascal Gabriel, guest work from "infinite guitarist" Michael Brook, and overall a much stronger incorporation of electronics. This album was also to be his last major collaboration with Paul Statham, who departed to form Peach Union with Pascal Gabriel and eventually write songs for Dido and Kylie Minogue. Cascade was also Murphy's last original release for Beggar's Banquet records, which had been his label since Bauhaus. Shortly after this departure, Murphy recorded the Recall EP for the newly-formed Red Ant records, featuring a few new songs and some new, heavily electronic versions of older material, reworked in conjunction with Sascha Konietzko, Bill Rieflin and Tim Skold of the band KMFDM. Once again, he became label-mates with former Bauhaus alums Love and Rockets, who had also signed to Red Ant. This generated a significant number of rumours regarding a possible reformation of Bauhaus. While Red Ant quickly folded, Bauhaus did reform in 1998 for the Resurrection tour, one performance of which (at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City) was recorded and released on DVD by Metropolis Records as Gotham. The tour was a success, although Murphy refused to perform certain songs, because of his adherence to Islam, such as "Stigmata Martyr" and "St. Vitus' Dance." He cited their religious overtones as objectionable.

14. Top Topham - musician

Topham recorded a solo album for Blue Horizon, "Ascension Heights", as plans went underway for him and Duster Bennett to form an eagerly anticipated blues band. But while Bennett was touring with John Mayall in 1970, Topham fell seriously ill --contracting a blood disorder and was close to dying-- and had to abandon the music business once more.

Upon his recovery two years later, he entered the fine arts business in Chelsea and converted to Islam and assumed the identity, "Rafjid Topham" (his murals and other works grace the luxurious homes of numerous wealthy Arab clients). By the mid-Eighties, Top had left London for Wales, rearing eight children in rural splendor but a chance meeting with his old mate from the Yardbirds, Jim McCarty, convinced Top to pick up his guitar and dust off his blues once more in 1988. Back in the London circuit, the Top Topham-Jim McCarty Band was formed and played for two years until Top decided to characteristically leave once again in July 1990, wishing to pursue country blues. He sessioned on 12-string guitar for the track "Broken Waltz Time" on the Bill Morrissey album, "Night Train" (Philo Records). Later, Topham and Jim McCarty teamed again up for Pete Brown's double album, "Rattlesnake Guitar" (Coast-to-Coast Records) as a tribute to help Fleetwood Mac's founder, Peter Green.

Taqwacore : Islamic Punk Scene?
Taqwacore is a genre of punk music dealing with Islam and its culture, originally conceived in Michael Muhammad Knight's novel, The Taqwacores. The name is a portmanteau of hardcore and the Arabic word Taqwa, which is usually translated as "piety" or the quality of being "God-fearing", and thus roughly denotes fear and love of the divine.
